The Protex table pads are designed to do what you want a pad to do:

What about Benson Mills vinyl table pads?

While Benson Mills offers a good selection of fine damask tablecloths for formal dining, as well as practical everyday coverings for a kitchen table where children may eat daily, their vinyl pads aren’t the best.

Although they come in 5 sizes and look similar to the Protex ones (and are priced about the same), they’re not as soft or easy to use – they tend to be stiff.

It may be possible to make use of these pads for tables where a fluid fabric cloth won’t be placed on top, say if another vinyl covering is required for a children’s eating area, but even so, it may be necessary to add a non-skid backing to prevent slipping or buckling.

There’s a spill-proof table cloth in the Benson Mills collection, that comes in sage, ivory and taupe, and appears to be practical for informal settings or areas that are likely to receive frequent spills by children. Despite the apparent heavy-duty appeal of the polyester/cotton material, the Benson Mills spillproof cloths have a propensity to lay less smoothly than the softer Protex ones, therefore we recommend the pads in the Protex series – and suggest Benson Mills for damask fabric tablecloths.
